In Anticipation (video installation)
2010-2011

In 2010 I came upon a small airport in the south of the Netherlands, Maastricht Aachen Airport.
It had a brightly coloured interior design that reminded me of the 80's. When I entered the departure hall there was no-one to be found. All lights were on though, and the displays with flight information too. It was as if this airport had been suddenly deserted in the middle of the day. I couldn't find anyone. It seemed as if the whole airport was in silent anticipation of any kind of action. Because of its yellow, red and blue colours this contrast of action and anticipation was even more tangible.

I decided to go back there and film this anticipatory state of the airport from my own more personal perspective. Probably having the sci-fi movies I love in the back of my mind.

The final (split screen) result is shown on a transparent screen, hanging in the middle of a dark space, that displays the video on both sides. The images are accompanied by an abstract foretelling sound.
